WASHINGTON — Following two public hearings on the RFK Stadium deal , Mayor Muriel Bowser and Chairman Phil Mendelson said they are confident they have the eight votes needed for the first of two votes needed for the proposal .

The D.C. Council will have to authorize the use of $1.1 billion in taxpayer dollars included in the $3.7 billion deal to bring the Washington Commanders back to the District.

Hundreds of D.C. residents testified on Tuesday , and on Wednesday councilmembers questioned Bowser and Commanders President Mark Clouse for hours about the development terms and community concerns.

"On Friday, councilmembers, I am asking for unified vote to help shift our economy," Bowser said during her opening remarks.
