On Saturday, July 26, during a manhunt for the suspect wanted in the shooting of Lt. Derek Porch , Scottsboro Police say they were contacted by a local business who had an employment application submitted under the name Daniel McCarn, the suspect authorities were searching for.

Scottsboro Police say that due to the active manhunt, the information was immediately followed up on. During the investigation, police say they determined the application was fraudulent.

On July 28, investigators say they were able to identify the source of the false application. Police arrested Daniell Hendon, 36, of Scottsboro, and charged him with swatting. Hendon is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail.
