One of the top prospects in minor league baseball has joined the Lansing Lugnuts.

Teenage shortstop Leo De Vries joined the Lugnuts on July 31 after being acquired by the Athletics in a deal that sent Mason Miller and J.P. Sears to the San Diego Padres ahead of Major League Baseball's trade deadline.

De Vries is rated the No. 3 prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline with Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop/outfielder Konnor Griffin and Cincinnati Reds pitcher Chase Burns the only players ranked ahead of him. Burns is currently in the majors with the Reds.

DeVries is considered to be the best prospect to play for the Lugnuts since Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in 2017. Guerrero Jr. was the top international prospect in the 2014 class and rated the No. 1 prospect in the Toronto Blue Jay
