MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Two lawmakers in Alabama continue to push for the death penalty in certain sex crimes against children.
Senator April Weaver and Representative Matt Simpson say the horrific investigation into a sex trafficking ring involving children in Bibb County shows the need for stronger punishment.
They plan to file a bill in the 2026 legislative session.
“It is unfortunate that we are here to discuss the rape of children and the penalties for the rape of children,” said Rep. Matt Simpson of Daphne.
With that opening line, Simpson got things started in the statehouse.
“Because it is one of the worst offenses, it calls for the worst punishment,” said Rep. Simpson.
Simpson and Weaver say they plan to re-file a bill that would call for the death penalty, capital
