Forty years ago, the Iowa Lottery kicked off ticket sales with a celebration at the Iowa State Fair. This year, it will return to where it all began in order to attempt a Guinness World Records title.
At 5:15 p.m. Aug. 14, the Iowa Lottery will gather participants at Elwell Family Park on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Their goal? To achieve the world record of the most people scratching scratch tickets simultaneously.
“We want to give Iowans an opportunity to join us in celebrating 40 years of raising billions of dollars for good causes and attempting to set a new world record,” Matt Strawn, CEO of Iowa Lottery, said in a news release. “They say nothing compares to the Iowa State Fair and that will certainly be true as Iowans attempt to break a Guinness World Records title!
