BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A grocery store in Fairfield is celebrating a major milestone this week.
The city’s first grocery store to open in almost a decade has now been open for one year .
“It saves me a lot of time, and this is something that Fairfield has needed for many, many years,” said Fairfield resident and shopper Morris Packer. “We hadn’t had a grocery store here since probably Walmart.”
Before Carver Jones Market opened in July 2024, Packer and his family were driving to Hueytown to get food.
“Nothing close by,” the grandfather added, alongside his grandson Avery who was holding a drink the duo bought inside.
The bottled drink that was purchased less than a mile from Packer’s home, an area that was previously a food desert.
