When I was told Derby's best Japanese restaurant was named among the 100 best eateries in Britain last month, Abbey Street in Derby city centre was the last place I thought I'd find myself. I don't mean any disrespect to the hard-working businesses along this busy street, but it's not pleasing on the eye and is often blighted by drivers on double yellow lines throughout the evenings.
I lived on nearby King Alfred Street for a few years while studying at university, and not once did I ever think Abbey Street would be home to the "best" of anything. But I was wrong and possibly naive.
Ebi Sushi has called this less-than-desirable street home for decades before the Inner Ring Road divided Abbey Street into two, but the restaurant has seemingly remained unchanged over time. Open for
