WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A senior community in Wichita is on the path to recovery following the recent theft of its air conditioning units. The La Familia Community Center was forced to temporarily close its doors due to the theft .
Since news of their plight aired yesterday, an outpouring of support has flooded in, with donations and offers of assistance from various companies.
“The donations are coming in through GoFundMe , which we really appreciate, and some are coming directly to the center. The community response has been terrific,” said Executive Director Dr. Carla Lee.
While significant progress has been made, the senior center said community support is essential for a full reopening. Over 700 Wichita seniors rely on the center for free meals, health education classes, and
