FORT HALL, Idaho — The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes issued a community outreach statement Thursday, warning tribal members about ongoing federal actions affecting healthcare services, highlighting staffing challenges that persist despite recent funding increases.

The tribal statement follows a series of federal developments in July that created both opportunities and obstacles for Native healthcare services.

The month began with Congress passing the Republican Reconciliation Package for Fiscal Year 2025, the so-called " One Big Beautiful Bill ," which President Donald Trump signed into law on July 4. However, three days later, on July 7, Trump extended a federal hiring freeze that has prevented the Indian Health Services (IHS) from filling vacant positions since January.
