TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The words "Black History Matters" are on the street in front of the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum in St. Petersburg. There’s also a Progressive Pride Street mural on Central Avenue and 25th Street.

St. Pete Pride Board President Dr. Byron Green-Calisch doesn’t want to see them removed.

“As Americans, as we travel the world, we look for bars that may be flying an American flag so we know that place is going to be safe for us to go,” Green-Calisch said. “It's the exact same things with these murals."

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy posted on X, "Taxpayers expect their dollars to fund safe streets, not rainbow crosswalks.”
