NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, who was shot and killed in Monday’s mass shooting, was part of a growing group of Bangladeshi Americans within the police department, for whom Islam’s death hit especially hard.

Retired NYPD Lieutenant Commander Shamsul Haque, the first Bangladeshi and Muslim lieutenant commander in the history of New York City’s police force, joined NY1’s Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Friday to discuss more.

He is also the co-founder of the Bangladeshi American Police Association.
