NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - It has been clear for months that U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy intends to keep his job.

At a popular Metairie restaurant packed with supporters, Cassidy made his official announcement Friday, Aug. 1.

“I am announcing today that I am running for reelection,” he said to cheers and applause in an event room at Drago’s.

At the end of 2014, Cassidy, a Republican, defeated longtime Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu and has held the seat ever since.

Cassidy says he has worked hard for Louisiana while in the Senate.

Jefferson Parish is one of Louisiana’s most populous parishes, and elected officials from Jefferson and the north shore joined Cassidy on stage to show their support.
