LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A career in emergency medicine could be just 12 weeks away — and right now, it’s more affordable than ever.

The National EMS Academy in Lake Charles is offering its upcoming EMT course for just $400, a price point officials say reflects a 70% discount for Louisiana students. The program’s first class begins Sept. 8.

Organizers say the goal is to make the path to becoming an EMT more accessible. Students attend two in-person sessions per week, each lasting four hours and complete the rest of the coursework online.

Graduates are eligible to take the National Registry exam, which certifies them to work as EMTs. Many students go on to work with Acadian Ambulance, which offers tuition reimbursement, career advancement opportunities, and even travel assignments.
