A truck carrying hot dogs overturned on a Pennsylvania interstate Friday, creating a significant traffic jam as the sausages spilled across the roadway. The incident occurred on Interstate 83, just north of the Maryland state line, during the morning rush hour.

According to a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police, the tractor trailer experienced mechanical issues, which led to a collision with another vehicle. The impact caused the truck to scrape against concrete dividers, resulting in the trailer being forced open and hot dogs spilling out onto the highway.

Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman commented on the situation, stating, "Once those leave the truck and hit the road, that’s all garbage, and it’s still pretty warm." Emergency crews faced the unusual task of cleaning up the scattered hot dogs, which required the use of a front-end loader to scoop them up and place them into a dump truck.

Four individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Dauberman noted the unexpected challenges of the cleanup, humorously adding, "I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery. I did not know that."

The incident briefly disrupted traffic in both directions, but crews worked quickly to clear the roadway and restore normal flow. The unusual nature of the spill provided a light-hearted moment amid the chaos.
