President Nicolás Maduro welcomed Carlos Cañizales, World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight champion, on Saturday night.

From the Simón Bolívar Hall, the head of state was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Cilia Flores, and other national government officials.

The fight, held this Friday, August 1, at the Poliedro de Caracas stadium, ended in the fifth round with a knockout for the Venezuelan, who sealed a resounding victory in front of his home crowd.

From the first round, Cañizales took control and pressured his opponent against the ropes. The scorecards favored the Venezuelan during the first three rounds, thanks to his aggression and precision. Although Pradabsri managed to respond in some passages, the Venezuelan's offense set the tone.
