ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A local sheriff’s office is marking 43 years since since one of their deputies was killed in the line of duty.
Detective Sargent Glenn Sturgill with the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) was killed on August 2, 1982.
The ACSO said three men used a shotgun to rob the Fisher Wheel store on Claremont Avenue.
Sturgill chased the men into a cornfield behind McDonald’s. Sturgill captured one of the suspects and then was shot in his side by another man.
All three suspects were sentenced to murder.
Sturgill died on his 30th birthday. He had served at the ACSO for six years.
