WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Greg Papa, a Buffalo native and longtime Bay Area radio voice, announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer and will step away from his broadcast duties to undergo treatment.

In a statement shared by KNBR, an AM radio station in San Francisco, Papa said he looks forward to returning soon but will hand over his radio hosting responsibilities to his co-host, Greg Silver, while he focuses on his health.

Papa, 62, has been a fixture in Bay Area sports media for decades. He has called games for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland Athletics throughout his career and became the 49ers’ radio voice in 2019. He's been a full-time member of the NBC Sports Bay Area network since 2009, working in various roles.
