Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday morning in Los Angeles on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred during a traffic stop at approximately 2:30 a.m. when police pulled over a vehicle in which the 35-year-old artist, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers discovered a gun inside the vehicle, leading to Soulja Boy's arrest. He was booked into the LAPD’s Wilshire Division jail shortly after 6 a.m. on the same day. Details regarding the reason for the traffic stop and the identities of other individuals in the vehicle have not been disclosed.
This arrest marks Soulja Boy's second incident involving firearms. In December 2016, he was arrested at his Hollywood Hills home after police found a gun while he was on probation. He later pleaded no contest to felony weapons possession and a misdemeanor charge, resulting in five years of probation and 240 days of community service.
In April 2023, a jury ordered Soulja Boy to pay $4.25 million in damages to a woman who accused him of sexual assault and abuse. The jury found him liable for the claims stemming from an incident that occurred in 2019 at his Malibu home. Soulja Boy has denied the allegations.
As of now, it is unclear whether he has been released from custody or if he has secured legal representation. Efforts to reach his representatives for comment have not yet received a response.
