Donald Trump is hurting the UK economy, most voters believe.

Fifty-one per cent of Britons think that policies such as Trump’s trade tariffs will have a negative effect on the UK economy, a BMG Research survey for The i Paper found, with just 15 per cent thinking his policies would have a positive effect.

Twenty-two per cent thought the policies would have a neutral effect.

Despite more than half of people believing that Trump is damaging the UK, the polling found that views were more mixed on whether the US President should be honoured with his unprecedented second state visit to Britain this September .

Twenty-nine per cent of people were in support of the coming state visit, compared with 36 per cent who were opposed and 28 per cent who said they neither supported nor opposed
