Labour MP Rushanara Ali is returning to the backbenches after losing her second ministerial role at the housing department in a year .
Ali resigned as homelessness minister a little over 24 hours after The i Paper revealed that she hiked the rent at her east London townhouse by £700 after four tenants were removed .
The MP for Bethnal Green and Stepney has been a trailblazer – rising from a deprived east London borough to attend Oxford University, before becoming the first British-Bangladeshi ever elected to Parliament.
But she has not had a smooth ride as a politician. Ali resigned from her building safety brief last year over her attendance at a conference linked to a Grenfell Tower firm, as well as enduring death threats over her position on Gaza .
