British pensioner found dead in Crete pool with three arrested

A British pensioner has been found dead in a hotel swimming pool in Crete. The 78-year-old woman was said to be cooling off in the hotel pool at Hersonissos when she became unwell.

The is reported to have been pulled from the water and given emergency first aid but was unable to be saved. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence. According to The Mirror a 21-year-old lifeguard and two hotel bosses, aged 41 and 51, were taken into custody.

According to reports in local media all three have since been released on bail. This is the latest tragedy to affect holidaymakers in Greece this summer.
