A 21-year-old woman was injured after her car crashed into a tree on Route 287 in Somerset County in Monday, Aug. 4, authorities said.

At 7:35 a.m., a Nissan SUV was traveling northbound on Route 287 in Bedminster Township when it ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey Police said.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said. The crash led to traffic being heavily backed up in the area, footage from NJDOT showed.

The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.
