Protests held outside CenterPoint Energy as residents face soaring utility bills

EVANSVILLE – Residents are voicing their frustrations over skyrocketing energy bills, leading to a protest held Friday evening outside the CenterPoint Energy building in downtown Evansville.

While CenterPoint Energy, the city’s sole utility provider, attributes higher rates to the peak summer season, many customers report bill increases far beyond what they’ve experienced before. Some residents claim their bills are hundreds of dollars higher than usual, with one individual’s bill reportedly exceeding $1,000.

The protest was organized by a group calling itself “Direct Action Against CenterPoint Energy.”

In response to customer concerns, Mike Roeder, Senior Vice President of External Affairs for CenterPoint Energy, acknowledged the issue. “We know that people are concerned about their b
