AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) - Governor Greg Abbott is telling Texas House Democrats who left the state that if they don’t return to the state and reconvene by 3 p.m. Monday, he will attempt to remove them from their seat. The move comes after more than 51 Texas House Democrats left the state Sunday afternoon in an attempt to postpone the special session in response to a scheduled vote to redraw congressional districts that would give Republicans five additional seats in the House.
In a press release issued overnight, Governor Abbott claims that Democrats have created a “deliberate plan not to show up for work, for the specific purpose of abdicating the duties of their office and thwarting the chamber’s business,” adding that the move “amounts to an abandonment or forfeiture of an elected state
