Customer says BP staff issued bizarre request to her when thieves entered petrol station
As the nation experiences a surge in shoplifting incidents , retail workers are being advised against confronting thieves directly.
However, it seems there's nothing stopping ordinary shoppers from attempting to tackle the crime epidemic themselves.
One woman claims garage staff begged her to detain a man who had swept an entire shelf of products from a BP petrol station convenience store.
Writing in the I newspaper , Sophie Gallagher revealed that two employees who had been positioned behind the shop counter stayed at the till approximately 20ft from the incident and "instead asked us, the only customers in the shop other than the thief, to intervene."
