To prevent summer slide, My Brother’s Keeper Newark’s second annual summer reading list aims to help young men and men of color see themselves in stories - and keep children engaged academically.

After the killing of Trayvon Martin, My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBK) program was established in 2014 by former President Barack Obama, to close opportunity gaps, mobilize communities, and improve life outcomes, including education and academic development for young men.

Over 250 communities across the country have launched MBK chapters, including one in Newark.
