RICHMOND, Va. — We are still months out from Virginia's governor's race. But the contest is already heating up between Democratic candidate and former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger and Republican nominee, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears.

Now, President Donald Trump is weighing in on the race. When asked if he would endorse Earle-Sears, the president responded affirmatively.

"Yeah, I would. I think she's probably got a tough race," Trump said. "She shouldn't have because the candidate she's running against isn't very good, but I would, yeah."

In response to Trump's remarks, a spokesperson for Spanberger issued the following statement to WUSA9:

"While Winsome Earle-Sears is spending her time defending Trump’s reckless assault on Virginia jobs, price-raising tariffs, and senseless attacks
