After the city of Mobile approved a plan to build a new animal shelter, rescue group representatives urged city councilors Tuesday to fund a city spay and neuter program, too. Councilwoman Gina Gregory said the body would look into the issue.
The council unanimously authorized the purchase of a former TV station and six acres of land at 1668 West Interstate 65 Service Road for $855,000 last week to transform the property into a new shelter for abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs. The additional approval of two separate agenda items set aside roughly $10 million for the upgrade effort.
