BUHL, Idaho — A 15-year-old girl was hospitalized Saturday evening after being swept into a drainage culvert while visiting a popular kayaking area with her family.

According to the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. on July 26 at Banbury Hot Springs. The teenager and her parents had traveled from Boise to kayak on the river.

After the family finished their kayaking trip and pulled their boats from the water, the girl entered a pond area while her parents were loading their equipment. Banbury uses the pond to drain pool water into the river each night, the sheriff's office said.
