SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A man accused of attempting to murder and kidnap a woman was indicted on nine charges in Chatham County Wednesday.

Twan Maurice Byrd allegedly hit a woman repeatedly with her own vehicle that he stole on Feb. 3, 2025, court documents reported. The woman's leg was seriously disfigured in the incident, and Byrd is accused of strangling her as well, according to the documents.

He also reportedly deterred the woman from "testifying freely, fully, and truthfully."

The bill of indictment also reported that Byrd attempted to run from police.

Byrd is accused of hijacking a motor vehicle, criminal attempt to commit a felony (murder), kidnapping, influencing a witness, stalking, obstruction of an officer and three counts of aggravated battery.
