The Kenai Watershed Forum announced renewed support for their Kenai River Baseline Water Quality Monitoring Program through Dec. 31, 2030. Via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), 16 organizations, including federal, state, local, tribal, nonprofit, and private entities, have formally renewed their support.

The program acts as a “health check-up” for the river. As the centerpiece of the local economy, culture, and ecosystem, tracking changes in the Kenai River is critical to making informed management decisions.

“The existence of a water quality monitoring program for the Kenai River speaks to how deeply we value the river as the lifeblood of the local economy, ecosystem, and culture.” Said Benjamin Meyer, Research Coordinator for the Kenai Watershed Forum.
