MAINE, USA — Nearly $11 million in federal funding for Maine's community colleges is moving forward in Washington, D.C.
Republican Sen. Susan Collins announced Monday that the funding was approved last week by the Senate Appropriations Committee. The proposed investments aim to expand training in nursing, health care, electrical work, and logging.
More than half of the funding, $6.51 million, is set aside for Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor to build a nursing and allied health simulation laboratory and learning center.
Other proposed allocations include:
$1 million for Central Maine Community College in Auburn to enhance nursing education equipment.
$180,000 for Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield to purchase equipment for its electrician training program.
