(PHOENIX) — Over 35 million Americans are under heat alerts this weekend as dangerous temperatures and fire weather conditions are expected across multiple regions. Extreme Heat Warnings are currently in effect for Phoenix, Arizona, Palm Springs, California, and the lower elevations of the Grand Canyon National Park. High temperatures in these areas are forecasted to reach the 100s, with some locations potentially hitting 115 degrees.

Heat advisories are also in place for several areas in the Southwest on Saturday. These advisories extend to Albuquerque, New Mexico; El Paso and Dallas, Texas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Little Rock, Arkansas; Wichita, Kansas; Springfield, Missouri; and Kansas City, Missouri. In these regions, temperatures could range from 100 to 110 degrees. Record highs are possible in Albuquerque and Flagstaff, Arizona, later on Saturday.

The extreme heat peaked on Friday in parts of the Desert Southwest but is expected to ease somewhat over the weekend. However, fire weather alerts remain active in Oregon, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming, where critical fire conditions persist. Low humidity and gusty winds could lead to rapid fire spread in these areas.

In the Northwest, an extreme heat warning is in effect for Medford, Oregon, and areas from Eugene to Portland. High temperatures in this region may reach between 97 and 110 degrees, with nighttime lows remaining uncomfortably warm at 65 to 70 degrees.

Additional heat advisories are issued for Spokane, Washington; Lewiston, Idaho; Longview, Washington; and Mount Shasta, California, where temperatures could range from 93 to 112 degrees.

As the weekend progresses, the extreme heat and fire weather concerns are expected to diminish, but widespread heat is anticipated to return to the Northeast and much of the country next week.
