GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Prized Packers free-agent acquisition Nate Hobbs has undergone a minor knee surgery, according to Cover 2 contributor Bill Huber, SI.com’s Packers writer.

Huber reports it was a precautionary surgery and that the newcomer Hobbs, who signed a 4-year $48 million deal to come to Green Bay this year, could be back practicing in as soon as 3 weeks. That timeframe would have Hobbs still slated to start at cornerback when the Packers open the season against the Lions September 7.

The team re-signed CB Corey Ballentine on Monday, perhaps as a response to the surgery. Ballentine was cut by the Colts last week, and had spent the prior 3 seasons with the Packers, making 7 starts and appearing in 37 total games.
