PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A one-time Fred Meyer employee who stole more than $60,000 to cover her gambling debts was sentenced to more than 2 years in prison on Monday, the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office said.
Rainbow Melodi Stammet was spotted by Fred Meyer security officers "taking cash from a self-checkout station at the Oregon City store in March 2023."
Stammet admitted she took the money over an 8-month period to pay for her gambling habit. She said she spent all the money, including some "at a local video poker outlet."
She was convicted in May for two counts of first-degree aggravated theft and first-degree theft. Stammet, who has no prior criminal record, was also ordered to repay all the money she stole.
