Sean "Diddy" Combs will remain in federal custody until his sentencing on October 3. A federal judge in New York denied his request for bail on Monday, citing no "exceptional reasons" for his release. Combs was convicted of two counts related to prostitution but acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian stated that Combs poses a risk of flight and a danger to the community. He referenced violent behavior captured in 2016 hotel surveillance footage, which showed Combs kicking and dragging his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. The judge noted that the evidence of violence, coercion, and subjugation in the case was significant.

Defense attorneys argued that Combs was not a flight risk and that his actions were part of a consensual "swingers lifestyle." They claimed he transported male escorts for personal enjoyment rather than for profit. However, Judge Subramanian dismissed this argument, stating it might be relevant in a different case but not in one involving violence.

The judge also addressed concerns about the conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center, where Combs has been held for 11 months. He acknowledged public outcry regarding the facility's issues, including violence and overcrowding. However, he noted that jail staff had managed to keep Combs safe, even during a recent incident involving a threat from another inmate.

Combs faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years for each of the two prostitution-related counts. His legal team has continued to seek bail, arguing that the acquittals on more serious charges should influence the decision. They proposed a $50 million bond, along with conditions such as house arrest and electronic monitoring.

Prosecutors opposed the bail request, emphasizing Combs' history of violence and his attempts to downplay his actions. They argued that his behavior demonstrates he is not suitable for supervision. The judge's decision to deny bail follows a jury's split verdict last month, which left Combs facing serious consequences for his actions.
