A 92-year-old man has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car near Sainsbury's supermarket in Kirkintilloch.

Emergency services scrambled to the incident on Shamrock Street, in the East Dunbartonshire town, at around 2.10pm on Monday (August 4) after reports a pedestrian was struck by a Honda Jazz within a car park.

The pensioner was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. His condition remains unknown at this stage.

A section of the car park was closed for almost three hours and re-opened around 5.50pm on Monday. There were no reports of other injuries.

Road police officers have now launched an urgent appeal following the serious incident.
