ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — The pursuit of two suspects who ran from a crashed car ended in the death of a North County Police Cooperative K-9.
The cooperative said in a statement that K-9 Officer Oya died in the line of duty after the Wednesday morning pursuit.
At about 10:30 a.m., officers saw a stolen vehicle in the 6200 block of Wells Avenue and tried to pull it over. The car fled and crashed just a block away, near Hodiamont and Wells avenues along the county's border with St. Louis.
Two people got out of the car and ran in separate directions. Oya was deployed to apprehend one of them, ultimately ending in her death.
Police did not elaborate on how Oya died, or whether she died at the scene or at a later time.
Both suspects escaped and remain at large. They are believed to be armed
