CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The U.S. Marshals announced Tuesday they have new DNA evidence in the 1965 murder of a 14-year-old Mansfield girl.
On Nov. 14, 1965 Mary Ellen Deener was walking to a laundromat, when she was attacked and killed by Lester Eubanks.
Eubanks pulled her into an alley and shot her twice.
When he came back to the site hours later, Eucbanks noticed she was still living, then beat her with a brick until she died.
At the time of Deener’s murder, Eubanks was out on bond for an unrelated attempted rape.
Eubanks was convicted of killing Deener; however, he escaped from jail in 1973 and has been on the run ever since.
He was last spotted in southern California in the 1970’s.
This past May, the U.S. Marshals released new age progression photos of Eubanks, who will turn 82
