ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — An Elmira neighborhood was interrupted by gunshots Monday night, resulting in a police presence throughout the area.
Around 11:05 p.m., officers from the Elmira Police Department were sent to the intersection of West Clinton Street and Grove Street for a report of multiple gunshots. Police note that only one report came in regarding the shots.
When officers got to the scene, there was no one in the area. Officers began to search the scene where roughly seven shell casings were found, indicating a shooting had taken place.
Police later learned that the shooter left the scene on foot after shooting numerous rounds into a passing vehicle that was in the area.
