A Nebraska-based public media company responsible for 80% of the nation’s public content by and about Native Americans will lose half its operating budget after U.S. Congress pulled federal funding from public media, its president and CEO said.
Funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which lost the entire $1.1 billion in federal funding it was scheduled to receive over the next two years, accounted for about 52% of Vision Maker Media’s operating budget in 2024, according to the annual financial report provided on the media company.
In the previous fiscal year , the Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant revenue accounted for 71% of the company’s budget.
