PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Former Massachusetts state trooper Michael Proctor is appealing his termination from the state police.

Proctor appeared virtually for a hearing on the appeal Monday.

According to Boston affiliate WCVB, the hearing was procedural and another is scheduled for later this month.

Proctor was fired following his controversial testimony during Karen Read’s first trial, which ended in a hung jury.

Proctor was questioned about messages he sent his group of friends, including texts calling Read a “whack job.”

He was suspended, then later fired .
