A Wilmington City Council member says one solution to the current uproar over taxes, in the wake of property reassessments, is to go back and use last year's assessment numbers.
"Sending tax bills out, charging people these taxes based on numbers that we know many of them are not correct, I don't think that's right," said 5th District Councilwoman Christian Willauer.
During a media briefing via Zoom on Tuesday, August 5, 2005, Willauer said she's been analyzing assessment values provided by Tyler Technologies to New Castle County for several months.
She provided several examples of residential and commercial properties which she questioned, including a Wilmington row home assessed at $163,000, well over it's last sale price of $100,000 in 2024, compared to a home in Greenville which a
