WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A correctional officer was stabbed with a homemade weapon at the DC Department of Corrections (DOC) on Sunday, according to the jail.

At the time, 20-year-old Ovid Gabriel -- the inmate reportedly involved -- was incarcerated while serving a sentence on aggravated assault, driving under the influence, unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a license.

On Aug. 3, an officer was stabbed multiple times by the inmate, and on-site medical personnel responded. The officer was transported to the hospital by DC Fire and EMS with serious injuries.

Gabriel is awaiting adjudication on assault with a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer and assault with serious bodily injury charges.
