The Jasper City Council convened on Monday for a budget workshop to consider a proposed budget of $30,469,407.00 for the new fiscal year.

The city council will be considering an electric rate increase to cover a $400,000.00 deficit in the Light & Power Department. The proposed budget also has a tax rate increase from the current rate of $0.2226 to $0.2850. Additionally, the proposed budget includes a $2.00 per month increase in trash pickup fees.

Council agreed upon a public hearing on the proposed budget on Wednesday, September 3rd at 5:30pm followed by the Council Meeting and a vote to approve or disapprove the budget.
