GROOM, Texas (KFDA) - Ruben makes a stop in Groom where he learns about a local restaurant thriving on Route 66.
Karen Brown, owner of The Grill, says the restaurant was built in 1956 on old Route 66. They were asked to reopen it because it meant a lot.
“We didn’t buy it until 2008 and reopened it in 2009, so it’s been a steakhouse and it was a barbecue place after,” said Brown.
Brown says it was the Golden Spread Grill at one time.
“That’s why the name is The Grill, because its in every Route 66 book. So we left it as The Grill so that people would know that they were still on the mother road,” said Brown.
Brown says it means the world to have the community’s support. It’s a give and take, and she loves it.
“They’re asking me things and sometimes it’s incredible that they don’t see
