LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - Several laws aiming to improve highway safety go into effect on Tuesday.

These laws were passed in the 2025 Arkansas Legislative Session and become active on Aug. 5.

Fines double in mobile work zones

Act 327 of 2025 doubles fines for moving traffic violations in mobile work zones. Traffic fines were previously only doubled in static or stationary work zones.

A mobile work zone is any area on a highway or road where construction, maintenance, or other work is being done by crews for a limited period of time.

This can include debris removal, road striping, pothole patching, and others.

Mobile work zones will be marked by signs, channelizing devices, barriers, or work vehicles with lights.
