NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced that the West Nile virus was found in mosquito samples in New Bedford and Norton.

According to the City of New Bedford, the sample was found near Oak Grove Cemetery in a “primarily bird-biting mosquito.”

This comes after the West Nile virus was detected in a mosquito sample in Attleboro on July 29 .

The City of New Bedford is reminding residents to wear mosquito repellent between dusk and dawn, wear long sleeves and long pants from dusk to dawn, and use mosquito netting on baby carriages and playpens.

Additionally, the Town of Norton is advising residents to drain standing water near homes to prevent mosquitos from laying their eggs, and install or repair screens in windows and doors.
