EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso health officials have confirmed that mosquitoes located in the Upper Valley have tested positive for the West Nile Virus, the City said in a press release on Thursday.
The City says the West Nile Virus is the leading cause of the mosquito-borne disease in the U.S., and it is spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito.
The City's Department of Public Health is also urging residents to take proactive steps to prevent mosquito bites and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds as the community is preparing to enter the peak season for mosquitoes.
Elderly individuals or those who have underlying medical conditions, including cancer, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, or those who have undergone organ transplants, are at a higher risk of developing s
