LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - The Jones County Sheriff’s Department had quite the busy July, thanks in part to financial support from the state.

JCSD received Occupant Protection and Impaired Driving grant funding from the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety to cover overtime costs during the 31-day period.

Those funds allowed deputies to set up additional, random “safety checkpoints” eight times and increase the use of “saturation” patrols 10 times.

Arrests made and citations issued included:

DUI Arrests/Drugs: 4

DUI/Assist To Others: 11

Seatbelt Citations: 149

Child Restraint Citations: 54

Speeding: 2

No Insurance: 128

No Driver’s License: 49

Suspended Driver’s License: 21

Reckless/Careless Driving: 9

Drug Arrests: 5

Felony Arrests: 1
